Even though the heads were made with Facial Studio, they still required a LOT of experimentation on my part to get the new Fast SSS (Sub-Surface-Scattering) material that I wanted to use on these characters.

This gave the skin a sense of porous depth by allowing the light to be reflected and captured by the skin.

This gave it a huge advantage in realism compared to my older characters.

I also experimented with various methods of creating grass for the diving try shot but the area needed to be cover and the closeness (and movement) of the camera made it impossible to do anything but render lots of little green polygons making for a decent if not entirely satisfactory result.

At the end the guy with the medal actually says, “Eat Footy O’s”, because originally he was holding a box of cereal, which I still like the idea of better than a medal.

This was the last full animation I have done at Fortune, because shortly after completing this, the world’s economy would enter another depression and the Fortune animator’s focus would take a dramatic shift in the coming year.
